Research Focus: |
This group has been involved in the sequencing and analysis of Plasmodium species since 1999. The main focus of the Sanger team has been the sequencing assembly and analysis of the Plasmodium falciparum genome, which has recently been published. The group specialised in metabolic reconstruction and the analysis of the organisation of major antigen families. The genomes of P. knowlesi, P. chabaudi and P. berghei have now been sequenced and the analysis of these genomes is being carried out by the Barrell group. Specialised tools have been developed to carry out cross species comparisons so that orthologous gene families can be identified and compared. A Plasmodium falciparum microarray platform is being established and this will soon be extended to P. chabaudi, P. berghei and P. yoelii.
