  Catherine Braun-Breton Profile

Research Focus:

She has been engaged in studies on red cell invasion by malaria parasites for more than 10 years. One of the group's main objectives is the characterisation and validation as drug targets of parasite enzymes crucial for this process. The group has made major contributions in the identification and functional characterisation of such enzymes belonging to the serine protease and phospholipase classes. In addition to unique antibodies to secretory compartments of the parasite and techniques for the isolation of subcellular fractions, the group has recently developed unique genetic tools to investigate functional genomics of the rodent in vivo model of malaria, P. berghei. Moreover, for the last 18 months, the group has largely invested in merozoite global and focused proteomic approaches. Thus the group expertise should complement and strengthen other partner activities to achieve the ambitious goals defined in the cluster 2.
