Mario Coluzzi / Bruno Arcà Profiles

Research Focus:

Professor Coluzzi’s laboratory is well known for his pioneering studies on the cytogenetics, population genetics and ecology of malaria vectors. His contribution on polytene chromosome analysis and on speciation within the Anopheles gambiae species complex has been of great value for malaria epidemiology and for implementing molecular and genomic analysis of this mosquito. Dr. Arcà started the studies on the An. gambiae salivary glands in Coluzzi’s laboratory in Rome and he is presently setting up a new lab at University of Naples Federico II. The group gave a significant contribution to the analysis of the An. gambiae salivary gland transcriptome and has currently focussed its research interest on the functional roles of the An. gambiae salivary secretions and on their involvement in parasite-vector-host interactions.
