Andrea Crisanti Profile |
 |
Research Focus: |
Professor Crisanti’s laboratory has been studying the interactions between Plasmodium parasites and their Anopheline mosquito vectors for the past ten years. The group has performed pioneering work in the field of Anopheles mosquito transgenesis, developing a reliable system and different molecular tools to modify the mosquito genome. Furthermore, they have made major contributions in studying the role of parasite molecules in the invasion processes, developing transgenic strains of Plasmodium in which crucial regions of major surface molecules had been knocked-out or replaced to dissect their function. The laboratory currently maintains more than 40 transgenic Anopheles stephensi lines in the insectory facilities, and more than 10 transgenic Plasmodium strains.
