The Holder laboratory is focused on malaria merozoite invasion of erythrocytes and the potential of using the fundamental understanding of this process to develop vaccine and drug targets. Currently there are two major foci: the application of structural biology to functional analysis, and the use of genomic and proteomic information to define new molecules on the parasite surface or apical organelles. The group has particular expertise in molecular biology, protein expression, NMR and X-ray crystallography, bioinformatics, and parasite cell biology.
