  Lars Hviid Profile

Research Focus:

His laboratory is engaged in studies on the pathogenesis of severe malaria in small children as well as in pregnant women. The studies concentrate on the role of parasite-encoded antigens on the surface of infected erythrocytes. They include field investigations as well as a range of immunological and molecular biology analyses of both primary parasite isolates obtained from patients and long-term in vitro-cultured and selected parasite lines. Recent studies have focused on the use of human monoclonal antibodies as tools to identify and characterize parasite epitopes on the surface of infected erythrocytes of known or assumed importance in the pathogenesis of, and immune response to, severe malaria.
