  Chris Newbold Profile

Research Focus:

The Molecular Parasitology Group has studied the biology of the variant antigen expressed on the surface of malaria-infected erythrocytes. The group has extensive experience in the study of the biology a significance of adhesive phenotypes expressed at the surface of malaria infected erythrocytes. The resources of the group include extensive clone trees of laboratory lines with well-defined phenotypes and var gene transcriptional profiles. The current projects are using these families of parasite clones to examining the expression of var genes and the mechanisms of antigenic variation.
