Robert Sinden Profile |
 |
Research Focus: |
Professor Sinden’s laboratory has been studying the cell biology of Plasmodium and most particularly, development in the mosquito for 30 years. The lab currently maintains P. falciparum (by automated culture and mosquito transmission), and numerous mouse and avian malarias by cyclic transmission. Seminal studies on the cell biology of sexual development, its induction pathways, and upon meiosis have been followed by detailed analyses of the molecular-cell-biology of the interactions of the ookinete with mosquito tissues. These latter studies have used knock-out and other transgenic parasite lines extensively, and are now being investigated by shotgun proteomics. These combined resources are to be used in Clusters 1 and 2.
