The Wellcome Trust Mahidol University Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Programme has conducted research into the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of falciparum malaria in Thailand over the past 20 years. Achievements have included definitive clinical descriptions of severe falciparum malaria, characterisation of the pathological basis of vital organ dysfunction, and introduction of new treatment regimens for severe and uncomplicated malaria.
